IEC SERIES
In order to meet specific demands in machine design, the motor housing normally provides three types of materials to choose from.
1. cast iron
2. aluminum alloy
3. steel plate
Each of above materials has its advantages and disadvantages, and is suitable for different requirements and conditions as described below.
Cast iron
Cast iron housing is more popular in Asia.
It exhibits features as superior durability, fast delivery times, custom production at small lot is acceptable, higher elasticity of material structure, better magnetic conductivity increases motor performance, higher load resisting capability at front bearing position and surface coating is made simply by conventional paint.
The disadvantages are heavy, poor surface outlook, length and frame number can not be modified after mold is made (special front and rear cover can be made by simple mold for testing), higher machining costs,The vertical (B5) and horizontal (B) type motor housing require two separated molds for production because they are not interchangeable.
The junction box of horizontal type only has one direction to select that causes the motor manufacturers and users to stock a considerable
quantity of motor. If a modification is required, it is necessary to dismantle and assemble the motor again.
Aluminum alloy
Aluminum alloy motor housing is more popular in European market. In recent years, there are two types of aluminum alloy housing presented in Taiwan:
EXTRUDED ALUMINUM HOUSING:
The benefits for this type of housing are light in weight, beautiful, rapid heat dissipation, mold is cheap and fast to make. Length and frame number can be changed as desired that provides added convenience for manufacturing motor with reduced frame number. Vertical (B5) and horizontal (B3) type of motor housing only requires one mold and are interchangeable. The junction box of horizontal (B3) type provides two directions to select, that greatly reduce the mass inventory for motor manufacturers and users. When a modification is required, it is not necessary to dismantle the motor and assemble it again.
However, the disadvantages are poor magnetic conductivity, poor performance than that of cast iron housing motor, longer assembly time (aluminum alloy housing needs heating expansion before assembling). In some cold countries, such process may cause housing crack. The front bearing position is not capable of resisting heavy-load starting requires a minimum weight (500kg) for production. Surface should be pickled before paint-baking. Conventional paint may peel off. Lower fastening force at screw holes. |
Aluminum alloy
DIE-CASTING ALUMINUM HOUSING:
The benefits for this type of housing are light in weight, beautiful and rapid heat dissipation. Vertical (B5) and horizontal (B3) type of motor housing only,
requires one mold and are interchangeable. The junction box of horizontal type provides three directions to select, that greatly reduce the mass
inventory for motor manufacturers and users. When a modification is required, it is conveniently made by simply dismantle the motor base and assemble it again.
The disadvantages include poor magnetic conductivity, poor performance than that of cast iron housing motor, longer assembly time (Die casting
aluminum housing needs heating expansion before assembling). The front bearing position is not capable of resisting heavy-load starting. Expensive
mold cost with long mold-making time. After mold is made, length will not be modified. The die-casting aluminum housing requires a minimum weight
(1,000kg) for production. Surface should be pickled before paint-baking.
Conventional paint may peel off. Lower fastening force at screw holes.
Steel plate:
This type of motor is mostly applied for power tools, and has two types as semi-enclosed and totally enclosed. The semi-enclosed type features better heat dissipation performance, but is not suitable for use in an environment with too much dusts or chips. The advantages of the steel housing motor are lighter than that of a cast-iron housing motor, beautiful. Low-cost, fast delivery times, small lot production is acceptable, no mold is required. Outside diameter, inside diameter and length can be specified. Better load-resistant capability at front bearing position. Conventional paints are suitable for surface coating.
The disadvantages are poor heat dissipation performance, making the motor not suitable for use in an enclosed space. Poor concentricity due to no machining on inside diameter. Vertical (B5) and horizontal (B3) type of motor housing can not be interchanged. The junction box of horizontal type only provides one direction, therefore motor manufacturers and users must have a mass inventory. When a modification is required, it is necessary to dismantle the motor and assemble it again. |

On next page, we list all of the IEC series according to IEC standard. We believe there should be more and more special sizes and requirements out of the range of IEC. Purchasing from a big motor manufacturer is not only expensive, but also takes long time to produce. Our competitive edge is we can do that in a short time with cost-saving. Your requirement will make us keep moving.
We appreciate it very much for your selection of our products. Our concept is do our best to produce each motor, just like self-use. We certainly hope you will be satisfied with each motor from us. Thank you again! |
